Damien blinked at someone opened the door to the doorbell. He couldn’t think of who else was supposed to arrive; just about everyone he knew was already there and having a good time. To his surprise, two young women, admittedly attractive young women, walked confidently through the door, flirty looks on their faces. He frowned. As far as he knew, girls weren’t supposed to be invited to bachelor parties. Some of the guys started whistling, and Damien looked around for Ty. I thought I made it clear… Ty had already made his way over to the two and was whispering something in their ear. With a wink at Damien, Ty stopped whispering and the two girls made their way toward him. No. What was Ty thinking? Damien took a step backward, as the girls approached him. “So this is your party, huh, big guy?” said the taller, blonde as she pressed herself up against him. “We’re here to make this a night you’ll never forget,” said the short, brunette as she went to his other side. Although most people had stopped dancing to turn toward Damien and the girls to call out or clap, the music continued blasting, and the girls started dancing around him. Damien looked at Ty. He would get Ty later for this. He didn’t know how to get away from them. Every time he tried to move away from them, they followed, and they were starting to lose their clothes.
He finally managed to make his way over to Ty, but Ty didn’t seem to understand. He simply replied, “It’s a bachelor party! Where’s your spirit?” Damien sighed, what else could he expect from Ty? Making an effort to look at the opposite wall when he spoke, Damien addressed the two strippers, “Look, I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to ask you to leave…” One of the responded with, “Aww…what’s the matter? Would you like us to do something different, or did you want to go somewhere more private?” Damien froze. They were…hookers?! Damien moved more forcefully away from them and began weaving his way through the crowd in an attempt to lose them. His closest friends seemed to trying to help, but some of the people who didn’t know him as well were impeding his escape, and laughing as he tried to free himself. James, who had been silently laughing to himself in a corner, finally deemed that the situation had gone too far and took action. Sliding in between Damien and the girls, he put one arm around each of their shoulders, and began whispering to them as he pulled them away toward the kitchen. Looking back over his shoulder, he winked at Damien, “As long as you’re not using them…”
Damien smiled gratefully at James’s retreating figure. Although those who didn’t know him might question his loyalty as a friend, James had always come through for Damien in his own way when it mattered. He was a little rough around the edges, and you certainly didn’t want to piss him off, but all in all, he wasn’t really the bad guy people thought he was. One reason for that was probably his refusal at time to comply with social norms. His view was always more removed or logical than others. It was a rare occasion that he showed a hint of sentimentality. Still red from the experience, Damien made his way out of the crowd and went to sit on the stairs. Somewhere, his beautiful fiancée, Leila was having her own party. He only hoped that hers was devoid of awkward situations. He could not believe that Ty…well, yes he could, but he had hoped that for once Ty would be a little less himself and respect Damien’s decision. Damien brushed the dark hair out of his eyes as Westley sat down beside him. Damien didn’t say anything, just looked out at the party, where people had begun to dance again.
James pushed the kitchen door open with his foot as he made his way into the kitchen, a hooker on each arm. As they passed the doorframe, James pushed the door closed with his foot. As soon as the door closed, he dropped his arms from their shoulders as though they burned him. Sure, they were attractive, but girls that could be bought were too cheap for him. “Well, parties over, ladies. It’s time to head on home.” Both women turned on him at the same time. “We were promised extra if we stayed the whole night…” the blonde said, almost pouty. James rolled his eyes. “Fine, how much were you promised?” The girls looked at each other and smiled, “$3000.” “Really?” James asked dangerously as he took a step toward them, “How about I give you a thousand and you take it and go?” “But…” they started, but James cut them off. “Next time, don’t lie.”
As James had predicted, Ty came bursting through to door, demanding to know what was going on and why the girls were leaving. “Ty, I think you should pay these girls what you promised them so they can leave.” James wasn’t exactly threatening Ty, but his voice was hard and cold. It was a warning of not to cross him right now. “But why? They didn’t do what I’m paying them to,” Ty said. James’s hands slowly curled, but he restrained the urge to hit Ty. Ty was taller by a few inches, and certainly very strong, but people did not tangle with James and come out on top. Ty put his hands up, “I never will understand you people…” he muttered as walked away, one arm draped over each girl. James shook his head and made his way back into the party room. In a way, he felt bad for Damien, but on the other hand, he found it amusing that a simple tradition could, in this particular case, get someone so upset. Damien was an unusual guy though, and he had never done any wrong by James, or anyone else James could think of, so it was only right for someone to give him a hand. Back in the main room, James made his way over to the bar. Perhaps it was time for another drink. “Tequila,” he said to the bartender. He turned back toward the party and leaned against the bar counter as he waited for his drink.
It didn’t take long to locate Damien sitting on the stairs in conversation with Westley. Although Westley and James were best friends, James had always thought that Westley and Damien had more in common than he did with Westley. Guess that was just the way things worked out sometimes. He and Westley had been friends practically forever, they had a special bond that James had never shared with anyone else, nor would admit to having. It was weird to think that two of his friends would be married tomorrow. When Damien had brought Leila into their circle, James had known that she was there to stay. She got along so well with everyone, but he didn’t know that she and Damien would eventually marry. It was clear that they had both liked each other a lot, but marriage was so far away from James he had a hard time picturing it for any of his friends except perhaps Damien. Damien was just one of those guys you knew would end up marrying the love of his life young, have lots of kids and die a happy man. James didn’t think he’d ever have that, but he didn’t care. He wasn’t really the marrying type anyway. He’d only had a few girlfriends in his life, and none of it was serious, just fun.
James smiled briefly in thanks as the bartender handed him his drink. James turned back around and looked out at the party. Guys had resumed their conversations, or dance, whatever they had been doing before the hookers showed up. James lifted the shot glass to his lips, then tipped it upside-down and swallowed as the familiar flavor bit his tongue. He then set the shot glass back on the counter of the bar and made his way over to table that had been set up with food. There was a impressive variety of food ranging from smaller, bite-sized snack foods, to food that required a plate and proper utensils. James grabbed a plate and piled several of the snack foods, like crackers and M&Ms onto his plate. When he had finished loading his plate, he turned back toward the party. He had never been that interested in parties. He liked the food and the alcohol, but he was not that social. He preferred to either be alone, or hand out in his small group of friends. Popping an Oreo into his mouth, he began weaving around the crowd in the vague direction of Westley and Damien. James knew few other people in the room. Most of the people were friends, relatives and coworkers of Damien. Although he did not want to participate in the pre-wedding conversation he and Westley were liking having, he was also a little tired of standing in the corner and watching people mill around.
((I added a bit to Damien's post and another paragraph to James's post.))

Westley's dark green eyes practically popped out of his head when he saw two girls come in the front door. This was the fancy work of his twin brother, Ty. Great. Why did Ty have to constantly cause trouble wherever he went? Westley watched as the girls smothered Damien as he desperately tried to escape. Westley wished he could move to help him but feared for himself as well. The girls would freak if they found out that two strippers were at the bachelor party. He scanned the room for Ty, his brother was perched on the arm of a recliner watching the whole scene with a big smile. "Ty!" Westley glared at him as he pushed his through the crowd; the apartment was roomy but certainly not big enough for all of these guys. Ty looked up, his expression changed from smirky to guilty. "What are you thinking?!" Westley growled at him trying to keep his voice down so he wouldn't upset the party but so mad he thought his ears might bleed.
"Westley, really, just calm down, it's gonna be fine-" Ty stopped mid-sentence to look over at Damien. "Hey!" Ty jumped up from the chair and rushed toward the kitchen. Westley whipped around in time to see the kitchen door close behind James. "Oh dear God." Westley muttered under his breath, this couldn't get much worse, this party was turning out to be more stressful than it was fun. He groaned and looked around for Damien, the poor guy was probably traumatized by now. He found his friend slumped on the stairs staring off into space.
"Hey, sorry about that, there's only so much I can do, he's hard to control." Westley said sitting down next to Damien, he ran his hands through his golden blonde hair. He and his brother were nothing alike, it was hard to believe they were twins. Ty had dark hair, eyes and skin, tall lean and strong. Westley was much lighter and thicker and slightly taller. "I just hope James gets them outta here." Westley wanted so badly to talk with Damien about the wedding tomorrow, but this was definitely not a good time. Of course, when had he ever been good with timing? He did need something to distract Damien from what had just happened and that was a subject that could last until the party ended. But he needed a way to lead into the subject smoothly; just right out asking was not his style anyway.
"So... I guess it's been , oh three years since Charlie and I started dating and I was kinda thinking about asking her to marry me. Whadya think?" Westley said staring at his hands, he knew Damien must be staring at him in shock. Westley knew he wasn't knew that this was a little stupid to just right out and say it, especially since Damien hadn't answered him yet. He peaked at his friend out of the corner of his eye and continued, "I love her, I know she's the one I want to be with for the rest of my life. Sometimes we joke about what our kids would be like and stuff like that, but what if she doesn't feel the same way?"
"She does." James said suddenly standing in front of them with a plate full of snacks. "Just ask her already." Westley rolled his eyes and took a cookie from James' plate. "Easy for you to say." He said smiling slightly, he still remembered the summer he had met Charlie. Her family had just moved into town and he knew from the moment he first saw her that she was the girl he was to marry. James couldn't believe that Westley couldn't just go up and ask her out, the two were very different. Westley waited two whole years to ask her, he waited until they had become good friends. James had would continually say to him, "Just ask her already, this is getting ridiculous."
Westley knew it wasn't so much that he was afraid she would say no, they had discussed these sorts of things many times. It was more of the fear of her saying yes. He knew things would be different in marriage than they would be in dating, he would have to step up a little more and take charge. He would need to provide for her every need and take on more responisbilities to take care of her. And to think that they would have children someday was easy and fun to imagine, but he wasn't so sure how he would react when it was really happening. He didn't fear commitment or responisbily really, it was more that he didn't want to let Charlie down. He loved her more than he did himself and the last thing he wanted to do was hurt or disapoint her.

James walked up to Westley and Damien just in time to catch the last few phrases of Westley’s worrying. Damien didn’t answer right away, so James said, “She does,” as he sat down on the other side of Westley. James rolled his eyes to himself. Boy Westley could worry. Charlie was going out with him; it was obvious that she loved him. After all the conversations he’d heard between the two, James wondered How many more hints does she have to give him before he asks her to marry him? “Just get over yourself and ask her already” James added. James balanced his plate of snacks on his knees, then drained the tequila shot and set the shot glass on the floor by his feet. He swallowed hard as the alcohol bit his tongue, and leaned back against the stairs, staring out at the room around him.
“Are you okay?” Westley’s voice broke through James’s thoughts, as Westley leaned toward him and put a hand on his shoulder. James turned his head back toward Westley, “I’m fiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnne,” he said, unconcerned, before turning back to the room. “Then why are you smiling like that?” Westley persisted. James turned back to Westley, “Noo, I’m nott.” Westley shook his head, ((“Yes, you are, I can tell by the way your mouth is.”)) and pointed to the shot glass on the floor, and asked how many James had had so far. “What are you, my mother?” James looked over at Damien, but Damien was giving him a look like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. ((The incessant smirking, not James drinking.)) “Oh come on,” James said, irritably as he stood up. He forgot about the paper plate in his lap and all of the food landed on the floor. Ignoring it, he gave Westley a look as he headed straight back toward the bar. What is his issue? It’s not like I’m making him drink. He really needs to loosen up.
James ordered himself another drink at the bar, but he did not turn back around this time while he waited for it. You know what would be funny is if Ty brought those girls back here. Or if Westley… James looked up as the bartender put another drink in front of him. He grabbed the glass off the counter and walked over to a group of people sitting on the floor in a corner. After downing this glass as well, he sat down in the middle of them and began a conversation with an attractive young woman he’d never met, who he judged to be a little drunk. Laughing to himself he thought that Westley probably thought that he belonged here anyway. After several minutes of conversation, James jumped up and sprinted back to where Westley and Damien were still sitting talking. He weaved his way through the crowded room, leaping over things, tripping over others, and almost running into about half the people gathered there. “***** You know, you just have no right” James started off, but then seemed to get distracted by something. The girl he’d been talking to was walking toward him, calling after him. “JaaAaames! Where’d you go?”
James looked back at Westley and Damien and smirked. He turned around and walked back toward the girl. He put his arm around her and began a slow, meandering, but pointed walked toward the kitchen. They were talking and she kept laughing, he thought was funny, and so he laughed too. About halfway through the room, they both tripped over someone passed out on the floor and she ended up landing on top of him. They both burst out laughing, and then she started kissing him. What else was there for him to do, but kiss her back?
((I know we’ve both never REALLY been around drunk people, but what do you think? We can always change it, but I wasn’t really sure what people do.))
~~~
Charlie stood up on what had been originally designated the food table, dancing back-to-back with Desiree. Charlie was having a blast; she loved parties. What made it better was the fact that drunken Desiree was much more fun than regular Desiree. Drunken Desiree was much more likely to laugh if you did something against her or start doing crazy stuff than regular hard-to-reach Desiree. Charlie laughed as she leapt off the table after helping another girl get up. Many of the girls had been taking turns dancing on the tables, and Charlie figure it was time someone else had a turn; she was thirsty. Charlie bounced up to the bar and ordered bottled water. She wasn’t as against drinking as Westley was, but she also wasn’t a drinker herself. Charlie laughed. If Desiree knew some of the things that she did while she was drunk, she doubted that Desiree would be as inclined to drink. Oh well.
Charlie walked up to Leila. “Hey! How are you enjoying the party?”
((Incomplete…any ideas?))
Westley snuggled closer to his fiancé Brooklyn; she smiled and wrapped her arm around his chest. He could have stayed her like this forever; he inhaled deeply, her beautiful scent pulling him in deeper and deeper. “Don’t make me go…” He groaned into her dark hair, she sighed softly, “You have to; the guys will be here any second.” She murmured but made no move to get up and get dressed. He smiled and nuzzled his face into her neck gently planting little kisses down in her throat to nibble on her collar bone. It wouldn’t take much to convince her to stay right here with him. She sighed happily, her fingers tugging at his long golden blonde hair; he continued to shower her chest with kisses, nope, she was going to stay right here. He did not want to separate from her, the thought of sleeping without her even for just one night made him sick. He had slept with her in his arms for so many years it was hard to imagine how would even begin to go about sleeping by himself. They had slept in the same bed even before they had begun dating. Their friendship had been so close and intimate it wasn’t a big deal. Now for one whole night he would be without her beautiful scent, no one to cuddle with.
A knock on the door confirmed her statement, “Hey, you decent?” Westley rolled his dark green eyes, Alex was already here. He reluctantly sat up pulling himself away from Brooklyn, “No, now go away.” He said and Brooklyn giggled and dragged herself out of bed and began to get dressed. Westley grabbed her arm and playfully threw her back down onto the bed, she laughed. “Westley, c’mon, they’re here!” She said laughing but she wasn’t resisting. He kissed her passionately; no way was he letting her go without a fight. She kissed him back, she didn’t want to leave him either.
“Yeah, c’mon Westley.” Alex was still on the other side of their bedroom door mocking them. Westley grabbed a shoe and threw it at the door; a satisfying thud rang out as the shoe collided with the wood. Alex just laughed but said nothing more; hopefully he had gone downstairs to help James set up. Westley was supposed to be helping as well, but he had become seriously distracted by Brooklyn getting ready for the evening. He couldn’t stand that they would be separated for the entire night and for most of the day tomorrow; but after that he would have her all to himself for an entire week. Tomorrow was their wedding day and tonight they would go to their bachelor and bachelorette parties. Westley didn’t enjoy parties especially ones centered on him; he didn’t deal well with crowds and being forced to mingle with tons of people. Westley sighed, “Don’t leave me.” He whimpered she smiled sympathetically; he was still sitting up in bed watching her get dressed, he would dress in a minute as soon as he could control himself. He loved her far too much; she was like an obsession, his one true addiction. “James will be there, he’ll take care of everything, you watch.” She said as she brushed her long dark hair and applied a bit more mascara. He was always fascinated by the transformation girls went through when applying makeup, it was so strange. He didn’t think Brooklyn needed makeup; she was perfect all on her own. He sighed again, “Yeah, I guess.” He stood up and wrapped his arms around her; she fit perfectly into his embrace, he was tall enough that her head fit underneath his chin. Her body seemed to have been carefully created to mold to his own; he intertwined his fingers with her and kissed her fingertips. She smiled, and shook her head, “Oh no you don’t. I have to go and you have to stay.” She said turning to face him and give him a parting kiss. He groaned and tried to hold her closer, “Brooklyn?” A sweet almost hesitant voice called out from the hallway.
Westley growled, “Fine, I give in!” He said grabbing pants and pulling them on just before Brooklyn opened the door. Charlie, Alex’s girlfriend was standing a few feet from the door; the poor girl was probably worried about interrupting something she didn’t want to see. Charlie was still a virgin, innocent and sweet and she would stay that way until her wedding night. Alex respected her for this decision, although he did have trouble with controlling his urges something the couple struggled with often. “Hey Charlie, you here to take away my love?” Westley asked pulling on a shirt Brooklyn had laid out for him earlier; she loved planning out each of his outfits. She loved fashion; she was currently working for a designer working her way to having her own clothes someday. Westley didn’t mind that she insisted on dressing him every day, he knew it gave her great joy and his goal in life was to make her happy.
“Sorry.” Charlie said gently and then grabbed Brooklyn’s arm, “C’mon the limo’s waiting outside!” Brooklyn blew Westley a kiss and hurried off with Charlie. “Bye Lex, love you!” Charlie shouted as the girls flew down the stairs. “Bye sweetheart!” Alex shouted back he was still standing in the hallway waiting for Westley to come. “So, I was told you are still resisting all forms of alcohol.” Alex said Westley rolled his eyes; they had been over this a hundred times. “I’m sorry Alex; I don’t feel the need to become slobbering drunk and have a massive headache tomorrow on the most important day of my life just so you guys can have a few laughs and put it on film.” Westley said Alex knew how much he hated alcohol but he still insisted on bringing it up. Logan didn’t understand it either, but Westley had seen so much pain and damage from drinking that he couldn’t bear to even have one small sip. He had stayed away from alcohol his entire life and planned to keep it that way. James appeared at the top of the stairs. “You’re not going to win Alex, just let it go. We’re having alcohol at the party and at the wedding isn’t that enough?” Westley smiled smugly, James was his best friend; they had known each other since they were toddlers and had been inseparable ever since. No one understood why the two were friends, they just were; it was natural and easy. Brooklyn had joined their friendship around the ninth grade and the three had become a clique, their closeness envied by all. It wasn’t until years later under a dare that Westley had kissed Brooklyn and his love for her had revealed itself in an insane way.
Alex rolled his eyes, “Yeah, yeah, but the whole point of a bachelor party is to be completely embarrassed the next day, ashamed of how you acted the night before. C’mon, it’s your last night of freedom!” Alex said grabbing Westley’s shoulders and shaking him. Westley laughed, “Alex have you been drinking?” Alex punched his shoulder and pushed him out of the room, “Where’s your phone?” Alex demanded. Westley involuntarily reached to grab his back pocket reassuring himself it was there, and that was exactly what Alex wanted him to do. “Aha! What did I tell you?!” Alex said holding out his hand for the phone. “I’m just gonna hold it, someone important might call!” Westley said trying to think up more excuses why he could keep his cell phone; the guys all knew he would try to call Brooklyn before tomorrow something that was apparently against the rules. “No, give it to me.” Alex’s blue gray eyes were serious his hand still outreached towards him. “Alright fine…” Westley said and started to reach into his pocket, “But you’re gonna hafta catch me first!” He shouted and made a run for it, Alex ran after him down the stairs and into the living room. “Get him!” Alex shouted as they ran around the house dodging random furniture and people. Westley twin brother Ty joined the chase, while James calmly walked down the stairs and helped himself to a drink at the rented bar.
Westley knew he wouldn’t win; they wouldn’t give up until he had handed over the phone. He wildly leaped over a tall coffee table as if it were a hurdle on a race track and shot into the kitchen when he heard a loud crash. He whipped around and ran back, Alex was lying on top of the coffee table now crushed underneath him. “Sorry.” Alex muttered, poor Alex so accident prone it was a miracle the guy could survive through the day. “Westley and James burst out laughing as Alex pulled himself up groaning. “Ow…” Ty laughed and pointed as the front door burst open.
Ryan Madrid collapse onto the couch in her living room, she leaned her head back and sighed. She was beyond exhausted and the evening had only just begun; she didn’t have a whole lot of time to change before she had to head over to the bachelorette party. She didn’t even know this Brooklyn but Charlie had insisted that she meet her there and go to the wedding the following day. Ryan sighed heavily checking the time on her cell phone; she was going to be late if she didn’t hurry up, oh well; the only one that would notice her absence would be Charlie. She didn’t know anyone else at the party besides her roommate and she had no incentive for going except to please Charlie. Charlie always complained that Ryan didn’t have enough fun in her life, that all she did was work at the coffee shop. It was true, but Ryan had not been raised the same way Charlie had. Ryan had had to take care of herself and make her own way in the world; she had worked her way up in the coffee shop from waitress to co-owner and if that meant no social life then so be it. She worked hard and long now so she could play later, she couldn’t just bank on marrying rich like some girls did. Charlie wasn’t like that of course, she was too good and honest; there wasn’t a shallow bone in that girl’s body. The reason Ryan had accepted her offer to be roommates, their apartment was nice and clean but a little more than either girl could afford for themselves. It was the perfect size so they each had their own room and plenty of space for it to feel more like a home than a rented apartment.
Of course, Charlie’s boyfriend Alex spent a lot of time here as well; Ryan adored him, he was fun and full of energy and he actually had respect for women. Ryan had wondered if there was such a man, a guy who would actually accept that Charlie wanted to stay a virgin until her wedding night. Ryan herself had lost her own innocence long ago in high school; she wondered what it would be like to wait for that one guy to come along and then to continue waiting until that special night. A streak of panic went through her when she remembered the serious talk Alex had had with her a few weeks ago; he wanted to ask Charlie to marry him. He figured she would say yes, they had been dating for a few years now and both out of college; his main concern had been what Ryan would do after the wedding. He had been considerate enough to understand that she may need to find another roommate. She shook her long brown hair out and tried not think about that now. She wouldn’t start worrying until Charlie was actually engaged and planning her wedding.
She lugged up off of the couch and changed into party clothes and grabbed the directions Charlie had left on the counter, she glanced down at them in confusion as she climbed into her dusty red Camry. Westley and Brooklyn’s place? That didn’t sound right, hadn’t Charlie said something about having the party at a huge mansion? Two of Charlie’s close friends Desiree and Logan were obscenely rich and were giving their friends this party as a wedding fit. Oh well, Charlie wouldn’t steer her wrong, she had a good head on her shoulders. She followed the directions to a small cute house tucked in a normal neighborhood. This was definitely not the mansion and why was there a guy walking up the driveway? Was that a stripper? That made sense after all it was a bachelorette party and Ryan definitely wasn’t here to judge if that’s what Brooklyn wanted at her party.
Ryan parked as close as possible and headed toward the house dreading every step and wondering if it was too late to run back to her car and head home. She paused at the door, knocking seemed silly at a party, besides the loud hip-hop music would cover up any sound she made. She opened the door and slid in turning to shut the door and then gazed around to find the bar, she would find the girls a lot more entertaining after a few drinks. She gasped and stood in shock, the party was full of guys not a female in sight. “Oh crap.” She muttered and was about to escape when a tall guy with a goatee noticed her leaning against the door.
“Hey! The stripper’s here!” He shouted the other guys cheered excitedly and all turned towards her. Ryan paniced and tried to turn and make a run for it , but goatee was too fast for her. “Hey, baby don’t go!” He cried grabbing her elbow, his drink sloshing a bit, he didn’t seem drunk just excited that there was apparently a stripper at the party. “I’m not-“ She started to explain herself when he put a finger to her lips, “No worries, baby, we’ll take good care of you.” He chuckled at his own joke and a few more guys started to gather around. “She doesn’t look like any stripper I’ve ever seen.” One guy shouted another guy shouted back a comment and soon they were shouting back and forth playful banter that could easily turn into a fight. Ryan opened her mouth agian to speak when she saw Alex across the room; he was headed this way with stressed look on his face. “Hey, guys everybody chill, Westley said no strippers!” Alex shouted out the guys all began to object and then Alex’s mouth dropped. “Ryan?”
She sighed with relief, “Alex!” She ran to him hugging him tightly, finally someone who wasn’t licking their lips at her. “Charlie gave me the wrong directions!” She exclaimed and looked around wondering which guy was Westley. “Where’s the groom?” She asked looking up at Alex, she always felt so short compared to his 6’4”, she herself was fairly average at 5’6”, but he made her feel like dwarf. “Alex laughed, “Hiding in his room, he doesn’t do too well with crowds. You goin’ to the girls party?” He asked and then smacked his forehead with his palm. “Right, you need directions!”
“Wait, Lex, I’ll take her!” The hottest guy Ryan had ever seen appeared behind Alex, he was slightly shorter than Alex with dark hair and the deepest brown eyes. He smiled down at her, “I was planning on heading over there in a hour or so, would you like a ride?” He asked, his pearly white teeth belonged on a toothpaste commercial and his face on a billboard. Despite herself she giggled and blushed, “Sure, I’d love to go with you.” Alex rolled his eyes and nudged her shoulder snapping her out of it. She shook her head as if she had been in a trance, “I mean, um, how soon are you leaving?”
He smiled down at her again, “Tell you what I’ll come find you.” And then just like that he disappeared into the crowd of men. Irritation stirred in her, she was so susceptible to hot guys, she hated that about herself, she became like putty in their hands. “Don’t take it too hard Ryan, that happens to every girl upon meeting Logan.” Alex said patting her shoulder, “Why don’t you get a drink he may be awhile, he shouldn’t be too long. He loves to be the star of attention and that’s a lot easier for him to do in a crowd of women.” Alex said shaking his head, “I’m gonna go see if I can get the groom to come out from under the bed.” He said laughing and then headed up a staircase. Ryan glanced around hoping the guys had realized she wasn’t a stripper just a party guest, they seemed to have forgotten her for the moment, good. She headed over to the bar and ordered a drink and the settled into a chair in the corner to wait for Logan. She found him in the crowd, he was surrounded by a small group and they were all laughing at a story he was telling. She winced at the memory of how she had acted around him and vowed not to be so pathetic on the drive to his place.
She shook thoughts of Logan away and headed towards the bar, she wasn’t going to count on him to take her to the girl’s party, but she certainly wasn’t in any hurry to head over there. A guy was hanging out by the bar already drinking, he looked a little bored. “Long Island Iced Tea, please.” The bartender nodded and mixed her drink quickly giving it in a tall slender glass. “Thanks,” She turned to the guy; he was really cute, dark hair, silver-gray eyes. “You look excited about life.” She said with a smile, two glasses later she was wrapped in his arms in a recliner making out with him. His name was James. She had always loved the name James; however this was the first cute one she had ever met. Even while under the influence of the alcohol, she was crushing on him badly, now only to get him to remember her the next morning.
Logan threw open the front door to the tiny house and walked right in. The house wasn’t actually that small; it just felt like that to him because he had lived in mansions his entire life. This house was more the size of a small beach house his father had off the coast of Maine. Logan’s deep brown eyes scanned the room, his cousin Alex was sprawled on the floor on what used to be a tall coffee table. “You already broke something?” He asked and shook his head, Alex was seriously accident prone, it was no surprise he had crushed the cheap coffee table into fire wood. Alright, so maybe it wasn’t that cheap, at least to a normal middle class standard; however, he had grown up with one of a kind priceless designer everything, from socks to chandeliers to rocking chairs. The nice looking table from what he assumed might be Pottery Barn was pathetic in comparison to his home furnishings. Alex just made a face and pulled himself up off the floor and tried not to break anything else as he stepped away. Westley glared at Alex, “I made that.” Alex’s mouth fell open and looked at James who just nodded grimly in confirmation. Logan snickered, “Oh Alex… What are we going to do with you?” Logan muttered shaking his head again and patting Alex’s hard on the back once.
“I… you… you made that?!” Alex stuttered and stared back down at the pathetic mess of brown wood on the floor. “Wes, I am so sorry! I—“Westley laughed and smirked, “Sorry, I couldn’t resist! It was just too easy!” Westley laughed, Logan, James and Ty joined in. This time Alex glared at Westley and stomped off into the kitchen to sulk. “Oh c’mon Alex!” Westley called after him. “Oh let him pout for a while.” Logan said still smiling and glanced down at the wood, “we’ll just consider it his time out for being such a bad little boy.” Logan chuckled, “You just wait ‘til your father gets home!” He shouted to Alex in the kitchen. Alex’s hand appeared around the corner middle finger sticking up at him. Logan smirked, “Wow and I thought Charlie had whipped you into shape already, guess I was wrong.” Alex ignored his comment and stayed in the kitchen probably eating all the snacks.
Westley sighed and picked up the pieces of the table, “Great. This was a gift…” He muttered as he and James carried the wood outside to the back porch. Logan helped himself to a drink at the bar and sat on the couch to wait for the fun to start. He usually liked to be late to parties so he could make a big entrance, but Brooklyn had threatened him to stay out of the house while her party was going on there. So here he was, he didn’t fear Brooklyn in the least, but he did respect her wishes at least for now of course. He already had plans to head over to the girl’s party when he got bored of all the men at this one. This was Westley’s bachelor party which meant no strippers or hookers; which meant a party full of men and liquor. What was the fun in that? A party was only fun because of all the women drinking and dancing and waking up next to a stranger the next morning and never seeing them again.
He sighed already getting bored; Ty was setting up the music so that was good; but seriously something good needed to happen fast. He headed into the kitchen as Westley’s other brothers walked through the door followed by Alex’s younger brother Adam. Logan grabbed a handful of flamin’ hot cheetos and glanced at Alex who was staring off into space and sipping at a Dr. Pepper. “What’s with you?” Logan asked, he doubted Alex was still upset about the incident in the living room; Alex let most things roll right of his back. Alex swallowed a huge gulp of soda and sighed. “I’m gonna ask Charlie to marry me.” He said staring down at his now empty glass. Logan choked, the alcohol burning his throat, his eyes watering slightly. “What?!”
“Yeah, I bought a ring and everything.” Alex said calmly and reached into his pocket; he pulled out a midnight blue velvet box and handed it to Logan. “You brought it with you?!” Logan asked setting his glass down before opening the box. The ring was white gold with a good sized diamond with small sapphires on either side. ((Like Monica’s ring, I love that ring!))”Wow, not bad Lex; Charlie’s going to love it.” Logan said shutting the box and handing it back to Alex, Alex smiled as he tucked the box back into his pocket. “Yeah, now I just hafta figure out when to ask. I keep thinking of all these great ways like hiding in a cupcake or something; but it all just sounds stupid. “Yeah… Don’t hide in something.” Logan said grimacing; he didn’t understand how people thought that was a good idea. So tacky. “Charlie doesn’t need big gestures, just take her someplace really nice and over dessert tell her something really romantic and then do it. It’s not hard.” Logan said shrugging, and then held back a laugh when he imagined Alex accidently spilling wine on Charlie because of his nerves. “Oh really? You think it’s so easy, just do it. Yeah, okay!” Alex shook his head, “It’s a lot more difficult than that.”
“What? It’s not like she’s gonna say no. Alex, you’ve been dating for two years and been friends since you were seven.” Logan said and took another gulp of his drink. “Yeah, I think I’m gonna wait until after the wedding. Charlie deserves to have her own day, and I want it to be really special.” Logan nodded and ate some chex mix; he could hear the front door opening and closing as more guys arrived, the noise level was steadily rising. “Does anybody else know about this?” He asked, glancing at Alex who was gripping the box in his pocket nervously. “Yeah, I told Westley, he went with me to pick out the rings.” Logan felt slightly insulted that Alex had confided in Westley before him; but it made sense, Westley had already picked out a ring for Brooklyn. “So Brooklyn knows?”
“No, he promised he wouldn’t tell her. At least he better not have told her, I don’t want Charlie to find out, I want it to be a surprise. “Alex said, Logan rolled his eyes; “Alex, seriously, Charlie knows you through and through, she’s going to pick up on your nerves the second you pick her up that night. “Hey! The stripper’s here!” Logan heard a voice shout out. “What? Did you?” Logan pointed at Alex wondering but not quite believing it. “No, did you?” Logan shook his head and Alex hurried out into the living to check. Logan gulped down the rest of his drink and followed a few seconds behind, finally some action around here! He headed towards the front door where Alex was talking to a hot brunette; “You goin’ to the girl’s party? Right, you need directions!” Alex was saying and smacked his forehead. Logan smiled and hurried over, yes a perfect excuse to leave and go to the girl’s party. “Wait, Lex, I’ll take her!” Logan said and smiled won at the girl, her slate blue eyes widened when she saw him and she giggled nervously. A perfectly normal reaction to first meeting him, he was beautiful and he knew it. “I was planning on heading over there in a hour or so, would you like a ride?” He asked gazing down at her; she immediately agreed melting in front of him into a puddle of infatuation. Alex nudged her and she seemed to snap out of it a little and come to her senses. “I mean, um, how soon are you leaving?” He just smiled, “Tell you what I’ll come find you.” He said and turned to find himself another drink and ran into a crowd of guys who intercepted him to tell one of his hilarious tales.
~
A little while later, he finally escaped the small crowd that had gathered to listen to him, and found the bar. He looked around wondering where that girl had gone, he had forgotten to get her name, a minor problem, he would lose her as soon as they got to the bachelorette party anyway. His eyes froze, well, he had found her. The girl was sitting on James’ lap and the two were happily making out. Logan smiled, good to see James having a little fun; he could be a little too serious sometimes. Logan glanced at the time on his phone and glanced back at the girl and James. She didn’t seem to want to leave, she would be safe here if he left. She was all wrapped up in James’ arms anyway, no need to break that up and he was definitely ready to get the more interesting party. He spotted Westley and Alex sitting on the stairs talking; “Later boys.” He said waving to them, Westley made a move to get up. “Sorry, Wes, you can’t come, no boys allowed.” Logan said walking out the door and into the crisp night air.
~
Logan followed the loud music to the girl’s party; he had helped plan it out for Brooklyn and was happy to see everything going smoothly. The girls were dancing and singing to the music and laughing. His eyes scanned the room until he found her, Desiree. His best friend and the only person he truly cared about. Sure he cared about his friends and their happiness, but if forced he could leave them all behind, except her. He smiled, she was a drunk; Desiree was standing on top of a table dancing with Brooklyn. Normal Desiree wouldn’t do such a thing, she kept up w thick brick wall around herself and only Logan was allowed to get through. However, after quite a bit of liquor she became loose and way more fun. It was the side no one but him ever got to see without alcohol of course. “Brooklyn!” Logan cried happily raising his arms in the air a huge smile on his face. “How are you my love?” His voice boomed loudly over the music. Brooklyn stopped dancing and turned to face him, her emerald green eyes darkened at the sight of him. He continued to smile and headed towards her, he held out his hand to help her down, he glared down at him for a moment, “You’re not supposed to be here.” She said carefully pronouncing each syllable. “Logan!” Desiree cried out excitedly; Logan shifted his attention to Desiree as she jumped down into his waiting arms. Desiree hugged him fiercely and laughed; “I’m so glad you came!”
“Always,” James said without emotion. He did a double take, realizing she was in fact, a girl.
“I didn’t think Westley wanted stippers,” he said, looking her up and down, “But then, you don’t look like one.”
“Thank you? I’m not sure if that’s a compliment…or–”
“Oh, it definitely is.” James smiled. She was hot.
James wasn’t much for parties. If this hadn’t been Westley’s bachelor party, there was a long list of things he’d rather be doing tonight. But somehow this girl had tipped the scales.
Well, maybe it wasn’t a complete mystery with the way she was pressed against him, their lips locked. Either way, the night had taken a delightful turn.
Brooklyn screamed, “I’M GETTING MARRIED!!” while jumping up and down on a table.
“YES YOU ARE!” Charlie yelled back at her from the floor. They laughed. Cheers erupted from all over the room.
Brooklyn grabbed Desiree’s hand and pulled her in to dance. The song “I Kissed a Girl” was on and she needed someone to make good use of it.
Someone called her name. She looked down to see Logan. He has some nerve. She knew it was too much to ask for him to stay all night at a party without girls, but he could at least support Westley.
“How are you my love?” he asked over the music.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” she said.
“Logan!” Oh boy. Guess Desiree saw him. There goes my dance partner…
“I very distinctly remember telling you you weren’t invited,” she said, but Logan wasn’t listening anymore, not with Desiree’s arms wrapped around him like that. Honestly, if they weren’t a couple, she didn’t understand why not. It’s obvious by that stupid grin on his face he wanted it.
Tell hell with them. This is MY party!
She let the beat of the music fill her once again and grabbed Charlie instead. Charlie was more her size anyway.
~
“Are you nervous?” Charlie asked, taking a sip of her water.
“About Westley or getting married?” Brooklyn asked.
“Both, I guess,” Charlie shrugged.
Brooklyn took a sip of her drink. She was going easy on the drinks tonight. She wanted a clear head for tomorrow.
“Kind of? I mean my mom didn’t exactly have the best luck with guys…” She paused for a second, realizing how that might sound, she added, “Not about Westley…just the getting married part… I wouldn’t have said yes if I had any doubts about him.” She laughed.
“Westley’s not like those other guys though,” Charlie nudged her with her shoulder, “You got a good one.”
Brooklyn’s smile grew.
“I really did.”
She wondered what he was doing right now and hoped he was having a good time.
”LOGAN!” Desiree screamed as soon as she saw him. She jumped immediately and he caught her anyway. “I’m so glad you came!”
“I wouldn’t miss Brooklyn’s big night,” he said laughing.
His arms wrapped around her felt so good right now. She was so tempted to take him upstairs. She pulled away and started dancing up close to him, but she was mildly concerned because it was probably doing as much to her as she could tell it was doing to him.
She pulled him toward the bar.
They downed shots. They laughed. He tried to pull her back onto the dance floor, but she wasn’t sure she could handle it. It was only in these moments did she let herself see their friendship for what it was: a charade.
“Nooooooooooo…” she said, holding onto her barstool. All the alcohol was melting her resolve like butter.
“What’d I do?” he asked all innocently, pulling on her waist.
